The University Grants Commission (UGC) has defended Delhi University's decision to admit students to its five-year law course solely based on the CLAT-UG 2023 entrance test. In response to a petition challenging this decision, the UGC argued that professional degree programs like law require specific skill sets and should have their own admission standards. The UGC also stated that universities can tailor admission guidelines to suit the unique demands of such professional courses. The petition argues that the admission criteria are arbitrary and violate constitutional rights. The Delhi High Court is considering the case.
