
Harvard University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is facing a $350 million structural deficit, equivalent to roughly 20 per cent of its annual budget. Dean Hopi E. Hoekstra outlined that rising operating costs, increased federal endowment taxes, and uncertain US funding have deepened the shortfall. Cost-cutting measures, including hiring freezes and reduced Ph.D. admissions, are already in effect as Harvard seeks long-term sustainability through administrative restructuring and workforce planning.
